Footage captured by citizens and firefighters shows the extent of the forest fires that have been ravaging Spain in recent days. In Zaragoza province, Felix Jordan de Urius Moore was driving home on Tuesday when he saw huge flames on the A2 highway. “It’s hell,” he shouted as he filmed the flames spreading through the surrounding pine trees. Footage shows Avila firefighters narrowly escaping the flames as they drive their vehicles down the highway. More than 30 wildfires in Spain have forced the evacuation of thousands of people and blackened 220 square kilometers of forest and wasteland.
