Fire Service warns weather conditions favor wildfires

The fire service warns that the weather is good for forest fires

A total of 53 wildfires broke out in the 24 hours until 6 a.m. Sunday, but most of them are still young, a fire spokesman said.

The weather is dry and windy and prevails on Monday, and fire chief spokeswoman Rafaella Puma said citizens should be vigilant and call Fire Service 199 or Emergency No. 112. As soon as you see the first sign of fire.

The situation in Central and Southern Greece and the eastern Aegean Islands is particularly difficult, he said.

“This was the first difficult day during the wildfire,” she said.

National parks and forest access will be closed on Monday due to the risk of wildfires, the spokesman said.
