Wala Wala, Washington – Federal Aid is funding a project to prevent the loss of private property and forested terrain in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, especially in the face of an imminent fire.
The Wala County Emergency Management Agency announced on June 23 that the county had entered into a $ 45,750 grant agreement with the Washington State Military Department and the FMA. They are working with the Wala Wala County Fire District No. 4 to reduce the fire in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI).

Part of the project will include landscaping to remove fuel that could endanger structures and public areas in a wildfire. Supervisors from Fire District No. 4 inspect the structures and assets of eligible participants.
Following their analysis, supervisors issue a medical prescription directing an employee to perform labor. This includes removing dead plants, clearing trees, and cutting down debris.
Although the initial maintenance cost is free for eligible participants, they will be required to continue that work during a wildfire.

The following night will be held at Wala Wala County Fire District No. 8 (10145 E. Hwy. 12) June 28. It starts at 6 a.m. and runs for one hour.
