On Saturday morning, CBS aired an 8-minute piece on national television that set out some of the issues causing the recruitment and retention issues for wildlife firefighters in the federal land management organizations. They interviewed several very experienced firefighters, including some who resigned. Forest Service Chief Randy Moore was confronted with his statement before a congressional committee that 90 percent of firefighting posts were filled. It appears that he assumed that 100 percent of the job offers were accepted, which was not accurate.
