CU Boulder Today Spotlight Wire work with Platt Canyon Fire Protection District
WiRē Hannah Brenker-Smith spoke to CU Boulder Today about the recent WiRē project with the Plant Canyon Fire District.
“Many people have moved to the mountains, and they have not noticed that they have seen their movements in the news,” said Joe Berget, fire chief of the Plant Canyon Fire District. This ecosystem was meant to burn, ”he said. According to the study, only about half of the respondents said they were “very aware” of the risk of wildfires when they went to the area.

WiRē has mailed more than 1,000 surveys to residents of the Burland Ranchettes Homeowners’ Association. Data from these surveys shows that residents are often underestimating their preparation and underestimating their damage. According to Burgundy, residents’ concerns are a sign of a lack of communication between the fire department and residents in their area.
To close this gap, the results of the survey provide information on the land risk assessments of each home compared to the responses of the occupants of those same homes. The combined Family Survey and Package Level wildfire assessment helps identify these gaps, which can be addressed by the Fire Department.
