Pearl Jam has been forced to cancel Wednesday night’s concert in Vienna, Austria, due to lead singer Eddie Vedder suffering a throat injury from smoke inhalation, the band announced in a statement on its website.
Vedder’s throat hurt while playing the Lollapalooza Paris festival on Sunday, the band said, citing “the heat, dust and smoke.”
“He has seen doctors and received treatment but his vocal cords have not recovered yet,” the statement read.
Two wildfires burning in southwestern France since July 12 have forced the evacuation of more than 39,000 people and burned more than 70 square miles, the Associated Press reported.
The band wrote, “We are very sad as a group and we are still trying to find options to play.” “And Ed wants to play. No throat this time.”
Pearl Jam’s European tour is almost over. He is scheduled to play Czech Republic in Prague next Friday. It’s unclear if that show will continue in the future.
