Yosemite – Mariposa Grove in Yosemite National Park is closed Thursday after a wildfire erupted near the popular destination, authorities said.
The park said in a statement before 5pm that it had burned five to eight acres of Washington fire. According to the Fire Integrated Real Time Intelligence System, the fire was later recorded on a 46-acre map.
“Firefighters are putting out the fire from the ground and the air,” the park said.
Mariposa Grove, home of Yosemite’s largest Sekoya Grove, has been closed until further notice, the park said. All other areas of the park are open.
