Halfway Hill Fire and Dry Creek Fire were reported around the same time on Friday, July 8
Firefighters are working on two fires in central Utah that were reported Friday 14 minutes apart, 28 air miles apart.
The Half way Hill Fire It quickly spread about one mile east of Interstate 15, two miles southeast of Fillmore. The Millard County Sheriff’s Office on Friday ordered the evacuation of the Virginia Hills section southeast of Fillmore. Utah Fire Information reported Saturday morning that 6,644 acres have burned since it was announced at 3:13 p.m. July 8. At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, a plane was spotted in action in the fire, which included four single-engine air carriers and two large RJ85 carriers. They were reloading with inhibitors in Cedar City.
The fire started while the relative humidity was 10 percent with winds of 15 mph from the southwest at up to 30 mph. Conditions almost same Saturday afternoon.
It covers an area of 1200 acres dry creek fire 10 miles west of Interstate 15, and 2 miles east of Oak City.
