Forest fire in Algonquin Park continues to burn but under control June 29 | News

At 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry wildland fire personnel are reporting one active wildland fire in the Northeast Region in Algonquin Park.

Algonquin Park 5 was confirmed at 1:04 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. It is located on a peninsula on the north end of Vireo Lake and it measures 1.4 hectares. It continues to burn but is now considered under control.

The Muskoka Fire Danger Rating is currently set to high.

Reminder that flying drones around forest fires is both dangerous and illegal. When you fly a drone near a forest fire, you can put the lives of pilots, firefighters and other emergency personnel at risk. Be safe, stay clear of forest fires.

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site. Know the rules for safe outdoor burning. Consult the full set of?Outdoor Burning Regulations.
