PARIS – Record heatwaves across France and elsewhere are turning some of Europe’s summer tourism destinations into tinderboxes, highlighting the struggle to adapt to a changing climate.
Thousands of firefighters, aided by water-carrying jets and helicopters, are battling dozens of blazes across Italy, Spain and Portugal. Wildfires have burned more than 1.1 million hectares of land in the European Union, four times more than usual this year, according to the European Forest Fire Information System.
