A helicopter struck firefighters with a water drop at the Hermit Peak fire on Sunday, injuring three of them.
The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. occurred during the fire, which has been burning in the Santa Fe National Forest since early April.
Two of the firefighters sustained relatively minor injuries. The third required multiple surgeries to treat head injuries and a knee head injury.
The injuries occurred when a helicopter missed the fall zone with a water drop and accidentally hit firefighters, according to the BLM Preliminary Report on the incident.
The injured firefighters were part of the Vale Interagency Hotshot Crew.
