A wildfire in El Pont de Villomara, Spain, burned at least 1,614 hectares of forest and forced the evacuation of hundreds of people on July 17, the Catalan Civil Protection Agency said. Footage posted by the Catalan fire department shows the fire destroying the forest and houses. 370 firefighters with the support of 15 aircraft tackled the fire, local news reported. Spanish news outlet El Pais quoted officials as saying that a lockdown had been ordered in 275 municipalities in 20 provinces from Sunday to Monday due to smoke and fire. No casualties were reported. The fire in El Pont de Villomara is the latest of 30 active wildfires in Spain, local news reported. Spain’s Meteorological Agency has predicted a high level of fire risk across the country.
