(BIVN) – The Hawaii Volcano National Park announced Tuesday morning that the Mauna Loa Road has been closed to motorists due to fire activity at the Kipukaalu Park.
In a social media post on 9 am HST, the National Park Service reported that the fire was 50-acre.
“Efforts are being made to prevent fires, with firefighters, 3 engines, water bidding and helicopter assistance on site.” Public account posted on Twitter.
Only vehicles in the fire area are allowed.
Other Hawaiian volcanoes are closed to the national park due to severe fires. This includes the Hilina Pali Overlook and the road west of Manauna Eki Trail. The Kulanaokuaiki Campground, Mauna Iki Trail, and back-end destinations are available, says NPS.
