Yukon wildfire closes Robert Campbell Highway, Frances Lake campground evacuated

The Yukon government posted on Facebook that it had left Thursday night in the wake of a wildfire near Lake Francis Camp and neighboring areas.

The camp site has been officially closed due to the floods, but the website says camps and boats are using the area.

The blaze caused the Robert Campbell Highway to close overnight. According to Yukon 511, the road was closed until Friday morning.

The accident was caused by an uncontrolled 50-hectare fire at 165 kilometers of Robert Campbell Highway.

“There is no immediate threat to human life but wildlife fires are working to alert local people to calm down,” he wrote.

Lake Frances is responding to an air tanker team, helicopter and firefighters.
