More than 30,000 acres[30,000 sq m]of fire broke out on private property near Willoeck on Tuesday, June 28th.

The fire sent heavy smoke into Malher County, shutting down Interstate 84 for several hours. The freeway was reopened on Wednesday morning, according to Oregon Tripecheck.

The fire, which was burning grass and grass at the land administration office, did not hit any house or building until Tuesday night.

On its Facebook page, the Vale Fire Department warned residents not to go to Willow.

“The outside world is very smoky and probably more likely to continue. Please stay indoors and out of the smoke as much as possible, especially those with respiratory problems,” the agency said.

“Also, please do not go to the fire line. More firefighters are going to the fire and for the safety of the public and our firefighters, please do not block the road you can use to reach the fire,” the media post continued.

The cause is being investigated by the Oregon State Fire Department.
