Firefighters battle through the night to control wildfire outside Mijas on Spain’s Costa del Sol


Firefighters fight overnight to control wildfires on Monday night in the hills near the Spanish delta del Sol.

Some 50 firefighters and two fire trucks rushed to the scene at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, near the Athalia Mijas.

Heavy smoke forced the A-7053, a two-mile[2 km]plane, to close for about two hours near Antrios, but the Andalusian Fire Department INFOCA said the blaze ‘calmed down’ at 7 30 30.

The last fire came just days after a wildfire on the beach behind Estepona.

The blaze in Sierra Bermeja burned for 18 days and destroyed nearly 5,000 acres[5,000 ha]of woodland around Benhavis and Puerto Rico.
