Manitoba First Nation being evacuated due to wildfires


Residents of Manitoba First Nation are being displaced by wildfires.

“Matthias Columbus is supporting the Cree Nation and Canadian Indigenous Services by displacing members of the community,” the statement said.

Members of the community told International News that during the evacuation preparations, the residents were asked to take their belongings with them to the local youth center.

One resident said Thompson and Winnipeg were the destinations for the displaced.

A map on the state’s website shows that an uncontrolled fire has spread to 1,800 hectares near Pokatawagan since Wednesday.
