Wildfire south of Custer draws airpower and other resources


The “Elephant Fire” is currently under attack using local, state and federal resources.

CUSTER, SD – Reported at 11 a.m. Wednesday, 25 AM, that the elephant fire is estimated to be 3 acres 7 miles south of Kuster.

Local, state and federal resources are being used to deal with the blaze, which includes three helicopters, an airplane, two single-engine air tanks and one migrant crew. We will update this page when more information is available.

Red Flag Warning for Coaster County units until 6 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to cool to Thursday in the 70s and 80s, mostly in sunny skies. Night thunder will still be a chance.
