Portugal extends state of emergency due to wildfires – Portugal

Lisbon, 14 LUG – Portugal has declared a state of emergency until Sunday, July 17, instead of ending at midnight on Friday due to the ongoing fire.

The announcement came after Prime Minister Antonio Costa made a brief statement at the IPMA National Meteorological Center.

The 45-degree heat, which has caused dozens of wildfires in the country, is expected to reach its peak on Thursday.

For days, thousands of firefighters have been working to extinguish the fire, forcing Portuguese officials from north to south to demand that the European Union’s civil protection system work. As part of this process, two Italian Canadians arrived in Portugal and On July 13, a fire broke out in a forest near Palmela, a few miles south of Lisbon. (ANSAmed)
